Event Philosophy of Psychotherapy conference (Norwich, UK, from Jul 08, 2011 06:00 PM to Jul 11, 2011 12:30 PM)
The conference will be held at the University of East Anglia, UK. The nature of psychotherapy is in many ways problematical. Some of the issues involved are of an empirical nature, but others raise conceptual and philosophical issues. Research in the area has tended to concentrate on empirical issues of process and outcome, but psychotherapy inevitably works with contested notions such as those of consciousness, mental illness, delusion, diagnosis and so on. The purpose of this conference is to bring together philosophers who are interested in psychotherapy with psychotherapists and psychotherapy researchers who are interested in the philosophical foundations of their field. The Centre for Counselling Studies at UEA has been especially involved with the traditions of Focusing-Oriented and Person-Centred therapies, and the School of Philosophy has a strong interest in the philosophy of Wittgenstein. Contributions relating to these areas of interest would be especially welcome.

"Wittgenstein and Epistemology". Wittgenstein insists, from the time of the Tractatus to the end of his life, that philosophy is just a practice, not theory. This and other issues will be addressed in the next edition of the International Symposium Wittgenstein, at the State University of Campinas (Brazil).

Event Lecture course "Wittgenstein’s conception of philosophy as devoid of theories" (Department of Philosophy, Uppsala University (SE), from Sep 07, 2009 10:00 AM to Sep 11, 2009 04:00 PM)
Dr. Oskari Kuusela (UEA, Norwich) will give a 20h lecture course on "Wittgenstein’s conception of philosophy as devoid of theories" at the University of Uppsala, 7-11 September 2009. The course is intended for MA and PhD-students, but is also open to others interested in the theme. Successful completion of the course will give 7,5 ECTS-credits. The course will run from Monday to Friday and consists of one morning and one afternoon session each day. Summary of content: Wittgenstein’s philosophical approach, in both his early and later period, is informed by the view that there are no philosophical theories (theses or doctrines). Instead, he seeks to articulate a conception of philosophy as an activity of clarification of language use whose aim is to resolve philosophical problems. How exactly this approach is meant to lead to the resolution of philosophical problems, and what it means to philosophise without theses remain controversial issues, however. The goal of this course is to clarify these issues and thus Wittgenstein’s contribution to 20th Century philosophy.

Wittgenstein Colloquium: How to Read the Album? The Wittgenstein Colloquium arrives at its fifth national and second international version proposing as a general theme the question: "How to Read the Album?". He invites the reader, by this way, to take that into account.
